Wm. Kregel was born September 28th, 1832, in Chilakothe, Ohio, and died November 16th in the Finley Hospital at Dubuque at the age of 76 years, 1 month and 18 days. He was the fifth child of Margaretha and Gerhard Kregel. When a boy he lived in New Buhem, where he was educated. In 1847 he came to Iowa with his parents. In 1850 he was united in marriage to Katrina Buneman. To them were born two children, Mrs. Amelia Oelke, of Audubon, Iowa, and Sophia Schmidt, of Oskaloosa. His wife died in 1872. He was again united in marriage February 22nd, 1887, to Margaretha Meyer. Two children were born to them, Olivia and Wilbert. The former died at the age of eleven years, and Wilbert is employed in the W. F. Meyer store. His second wife preceded him in death on August 25th, 1906. He leaves to mourn his death, besides his only son, two daughters and two brothers, John and Diedrich, both of Garnavillo, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
