Added by S. Ferrall 5/12/2025:
Joseph M. York, the son of John and Sophronia York, was born at Albany, Whiteside county, Illinois, April 20, 1861. He passed away last Friday, June 20, 1930, at Marquette, Iowa.
When a small child he moved with his family to Wayne, Nebraska, and later came to the York farm north of Marquette, Iowa. Since then most of his life has been spent in this vicinity.
He became a member of the Methodist church at Wayne, Neb., when a young man. He received his education at Valparaiso University where he took up a course in law. He made his home for a number of years with his sister at Marquette, since her death he has been at the Berry Hotel.
He had three sisters and three brothers, who with his parents preceded him in death. His only living relatives are two nieces, Mrs. Carl F. Bos of Rock Island, Ill., and Mrs. Pearl F. Cheek of Long Beach, California, who were daughters of his brother, Captain William York and sister-in-law, Mrs. Blanche York.
Among his friends at Marquette he has been known for his good character, kindness and charity. We have only heard words of praises for his devotion to his dependent sister whom he made a home for many years.
