Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 22 Oct. 1908.
At an early hour Wednesday morning, October 21st, Norman Wells, one of our oldest settlers, passed away at the home of his son, A. H. Wells, in the 81st year of his age.
Mr. Wells was born in Rutland, Vt., February 5th, 1828. He came to Iowa in 1860, locating at McGregor, where in 186_ (looks like 1866) he married Catherine Kimball. They moved to Boardman township and located on a farm in 1870, and in 1883 moved to Elkader, where they lived until after the death of Mrs. Wells in 1903. Since that time deceased has made his home with his son.
He is survived by his only child, A. H. Wells, one sister, Mrs. Betsey Abby, of Jackson, Mich., and four grandchildren.
Mr. Wells was an industrious, hard working man, a good citizen, a kind father and neighbor.
The funeral was held at the Congregational church this afternoon, Rev. J. G. Dickey officiating, and was attended by many friends of the family.
