Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 17 Sept. 1908.
At the home of her parents in Boardman township, about 12:20 Sunday noon, occurred the death of Miss Maggie Stence, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Stence.
Maggie was born March 13th, 1870, on the farm where she has lived and passed away. Since April last she has been a sufferer, but not until an operation was undertaken at Chicago was it discovered that she was afflicted with cancer of the stomach. Returning to her home she has gradually failed until the end.
Miss Maggie was a devoted daughter, always planning to assist her parents and friends. Her kindness of heart drew to her a large circle of friends who have viewed with pain her passing through the deep waters of the valley of death. She is survived by her parents, five sisters and three brothers, and a host of friends who mourn her departure.
The funeral was held Tuesday morning and was one of the largest that has been held here for years. Some one hundred and twenty-two teams were in the procession from the house. Services were held by Rev. J. F. Reilly at St. Joseph's church, of which Maggie was a consistent and devoted member.
