On Thursday evening, Sept.3rd, at his residence in Elkader, Fred Scheer passed away, after an illness of about four months, in his 59th year.
Mr. Scheer was born in Mecklenburg Schwerin, Germany, March 14th, 1850. In 1872 he came to America, and for five years worked in the pineries of Wisconsin. In 1877 he came to Clayton county, and settled at Littleport. He then bought a farm in Volga twp., where he lived twenty years. About five years ago he moved to Elkader.
At Littleport he married Miss Lena Nehser, who died March 24th, 1907. On Dec. 31, 1907, he married Mrs. Hannah Hadrich, who survives him. He is also survived by one brother and one sister, both living in Germany, and two daughters, Mrs. Mary Bente and Mrs. Lena Bente, both of Boardman township, and three grandchildren.
Deceased was a member of the M.W.A., M.B.A., Royal Neighbors and Bankers Fraternal. Those who knew him feel that a good husband and father and an obliging neighbor has passed from among us, and will mourn his departure.
The funeral services were held last Saturday afternoon at the Congregational church, conducted by Rev. J. G. Dickey. The services at the cemetery were under the charge of Mystic Camp 310 M.W.A. of which deceased was a member. The services were largely attended by many old time friends and neighbors.
