Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 03 Sept. 1908.

At his home in St. Olaf, Tuesday morning Aug. 25th, at seven o'clock, occurred the death of H. B. Orvis. For the past six weeks he had been suffering with heart trouble, which made his friends realize that his stay upon earth was short. Everything that loving hands and medical skill could do to relieve his suffering was done but all in vain, death claimed him as his own. Through all his sickness no word of complaint escaped his lips. He always greeted his friends with a smile and cheerful words.

After a few short months of married life, made happy by every comfort and convenience of a pleasant home, kind friends and a loving wife, he has been called to a higher walk in the great problem of progression.

Mr. Orvis was a type of perfect manhood and his quiet influence will be felt by all with whom he came in contact.

Herbert Orvis was born in Sycamore, Ill., Nov. 3, 1871, and died at his home in St. Olaf, Iowa, Aug. 25th, 1908, at the age of 36 years, 8 months and 25 days. September 21st, 1907, he was united in marriage to Miss Mina Knudtson, of this place. Besides being survived by his wife he leaves to mourn his loss his mother and two brothers, F. K. Orvis, of St. Olaf, and Frank Orvis, of Lincoln, Neb.

It is sad to part thus, yet he laid down the burden of life, firm in the belief that he was saved and going to God, everlasting glory and happiness. On Thursday, Aug. 27th, he was laid to rest in the Norway Lutheran cemetery, where a large gathering of friends came to pay the last respect and to take a last look at their beloved friend. Rev. Arveson preached the funeral sermon.

A precious one from us has gone,
A voice we loved is tilled,
A place is vacant in our home
Which never can be filled.

God in his wisdom has recalled
The boon his love has given,
And though the body moulders here
The soul is safe in Heaven.
