Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 23 July 1908. Garnavillo column.
Bernard Frederic Harnack, the eldest son of Frank Harnack and wife, was born in Garnavillo August 20th, 1875. His death occurred July 14th after a very brief illness. It came as a shock to his many friends for few knew of his illness. The funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the residence and from thence to St. Paul's Lutheran church, Rev. K. W. Braun officiating. His remains were laid to rest in the new cemetery beside those of his father, who had preceded him in death about six months ago. Mr. Harnack had always been a resident of Garnavillo and was a member of the Garnavillo Turn Verein. He leaves to mourn his departure a mother, two sisters, Mrs. Emma Hahn, of Sexton, Iowa, and Mrs. Wm. Ihde, of this place, and one brother, Gustave Harnack, of Lakeville, Minn. His cheerful, helpful life, his kindness and devotion to his mother, will long linger as a fragrant memory in the home which his presence brightened and which death has now darkened.
