Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 16 July 1908. Marion column.
Mrs. Martha Johnson, of Marion township, died Friday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Baumgartner, where she was visiting. She had been suffering from a bruised arm and while she seemed to be getting along nicely she took sick suddenly Thursday night of inflammation of the stomach and died early the next morning. She leaves her aged husband, John Johnson, two sons, Julius and Dorf, and two daughters, Mrs. Baumgartner and Mrs. Iver Skain, all married and all living in Marion township except Mrs. Skain, who lives near Canton, S.D. The Johnsons were among the earliest settlers here. The funeral took place Monday afternoon at the Clermont Lutheran cemetery, Rev. Buursett officiating.
