Mrs. Sarah Ellen Jennings was born in Winnebago county, Illinois, September 1st, 1842, and died June 25th, 1908, at Elkader, Iowa, aged 64 years, 9 months and 25 days. She, with her parents, came to Sperry township, Clayton county, Iowa, in 1854, where she has lived until her death. Mrs. Jennings became a Christian in childhood and united with the U.B. church and lived a consistent Christian all her life. March 25th, 18__, she was united in marriage with J. M. Jennings, and to them five children were born, four sons and one daughter. One son died in childhood and all the remaining children were at the funeral. The funeral services were held in the Methodist church in Volga, conducted by Rev. Mrs. Neudigate, of Oelwein. She leaves a husband, three sons, one daughter, two sisters and a large circle of friends to mourn her death. Mrs. Jennings was at Elkader receiving treatment for a broken arm, but her death was caused by a stroke of paralysis.
