Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 18 June 1908.
Mrs. Ida Knoernschild died in Dubuque Tuesday evening, June 16th. She was born in Germany forty-seven years ago, and forty-three years ago, with her parents, came to Elkport, at which place she lived up to the time she was married to Mr. Knoernschild in the fall of 1889. No children were born to them. She leaves to mourn, besides her devoted husband, two sisters, Mrs. Mueller and Mrs. DeFountain, of Dubuque, and three brothers, Fred, of Volga City, Henry, of Seattle, Wash., and William, of Dubuque, who were all at her bed side the last week. A week ago she was taken to Finley Hospital with hopes of a successful operation, but she was beyond human relief. Everything possible was done to make her stay here a little longer, but she went to sleep without suffering, bidding her folks goodbye and giving her love to all friends. The funeral to be held at her home Friday, Rev. Puttengier officiating. She joined the Lutheran church at Elkport at the age of thirteen years and was a faithful member to the end.
