Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 30 Apr. 1908.
Margaret J. Gull was born in Preston Co., West Virginia, May 11th, 1830, and came to Clayton county, Iowa, with her parents in 1852. She grew to young womanhood, and was married to D. _. Gull, who died January 20, 1897. To them were born fourteen children, ten of whom are living: Robert A., Watson E., Mrs. Ella Dodge and Mrs. Dorothy Penfold, of Colesburg, Iowa; John A., of Edgemont, S.D.; Mrs. Minerva Lehman, of Adair, Iowa; Mrs. Emma Moser, of Greeley, Iowa; Mrs. Clara Burgess, Mrs. Lillian Anderegg and Chas U., of Graham, Iowa. Mrs. Gull was a Christian woman, a kind and loving mother, and a good neighbor. Those who knew her best loved her most. She was constantly thinking of some one else's comfort and pleasure instead of her own. Never did she turn any tramp or beggar hungry from her door. Her life ended peacefully Sunday evening, April 12th, 1908, after an illness of eight weeks. Her funeral was held at the Congregational church at Colesburg, of which she was a member and was conducted by Rev. A. E. Hursh, of the United Brethren church and was attended by a large number of friends, neighbors and relatives, after which she was laid to rest in Oak Hill cemetery.
