Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 02 Apr. 1908.
As the result of an explosion of the gasoline tank attached to the power engine of the Glover overall factory of Guttenberg, Ed. Raesli, of Dubuque, was killed and a fire damage of $1,000 was caused. The accident occurred at ten o'clock Wednesday morning. Between one hundred and one hundred and twenty-five women and girls are employed in this factory and for a while it looked as though a score would be killed in the frantic rush from the building, but as the exits were many, all escaped unhurt save Raesli, who was in the basement where the explosion occurred. The walls of the factory are badly scorched and the stock is damaged by water to some extent. For a while it appeared this building and others were doomed to complete destruction but as soon as the gasoline supply had been licked up by the flames the fire was easily subdued.
