GUTTENBERG, Iowa - Wayne Marvin Lau, 67, of Guttenberg, Iowa, gained his wings Wednesday, November 8, 2017, with his loving family by his side at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, Iowa.

Wayne was born July 11, 1950, to Merrill and Adele Radamacker Lau. He graduated from Guttenberg High School in 1968 and later joined the U.S. Army and served his country proudly in the Vietnam War with the 82nd and the 173rd Airborne Division Charlie Company 4th Battalion. After his honorable discharge, Wayne attended school for architectural drawing and jewelry repair.

Wayne was united in marriage to Carol Hogan on May 6, 1989. They were later blessed with their daughter Amber. His biggest passions in life were his wife, daughter and grandchildren. He enjoyed time out on the Mississippi River fishing, the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs. He enjoyed hunting just about any type of wildlife out there. Wayne also taught the hunter safety course for many years. Wayne spent 46 years in a wheel chair and never complained a day of his life. He always considered it a blessing.

He is survived by his wife; Carol Lau, daughter Amber (Rusty) Meyer, of Dyersville; siblings, Sandie (Lonnie) Beisker, of McGregor, Jeff (Jean) Lau, of Guttenberg, Dawn (Dan) Coyle, of Delhi: Merrill (Tanya) Hyde, of Florida; five grandchildren, Cade, Ethyn, Brynn, Avery and Adeline Meyer; mother-in-law Helen Hogan; in-laws, Roger and Mary Hogan, of Luxemburg, Jerry and Kathy Hogan, of Poynette, Wis., Ronnie and Sherrie Hogan, of Dyersville, Ronnie and Marilyn Schultz, of Holy Cross, Dan and Deb Hogan, of Guttenberg, Mike Hogan, of Holy Cross, and many nieces and nephews.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; brother Steve Lau; and father-in-law Vince Hogan.

Special Thanks to Dr. Schulteis, Dr. Engelman, "Wayne's Chemo Nurses, his Angels", to all the doctors and nurses in Mercy Hospital in ICU and 3rd Floor, you are our extended family now. All of the loving care and compassion will never be forgotten.

Arrangements are being handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, 207 S. 1st St, Guttenberg, Iowa, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday, November 10, 2017. Memorial service will be at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 11, 2017, in Guttenberg. Interment will be at Guttenberg City Cemetery.
