After a lingering disease Mrs. Fritz Ihde sank peacefully to rest Wednesday morning, March 11th, 1908, at 9:30, at the advanced age of 84 years, 10 months and 15 days.
During her long illness she was tenderly cared for by her children, who were constantly at her bedside and who done all in their power to relieve her suffering, but her weakened body finally gave way and she entered into well earned rest.
Sophia Ihde, nee Kluss, was born in Mecklenburg, Schwerin, Germany, April 26, 1823. She was married in 1848 to Fritz Ihde and immigrated to America in 1855, locating at Davenport. After a six months stay there they removed to Clayton county and settled on a farm in Garnavillo twp., now occupied by their son John. In 1888 they became residents of Garnavillo.
Nine children were born to them, four having preceded her to the great beyond. An aged husband and five children survive to mourn her loss; Mrs. Wm. Brandt, of Lincoln, Neb.;Fred, of Sewert Co., Neb.; John, of Garnavillo twp.; William, of Jasper, Minn.; and Mrs. Al Crawford. These and twenty-eight grandchildren sincerely mourn her departure.
The funeral services were held Saturday afternoon. Rev. Braun officiating.
