Ardeth went back to school with four young children at home; graduating Summa Cum Laude from the University of Dubuque with a degree in education.

Education was a passion of Ardeth's, and she touched many lives teaching at Kennedy Elementary School for 20 years. She was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Retired Teachers Association and Busy Bee Circle.

After retirement, Ardeth and Don enjoyed spending the winters in Florida, where she tended to her beautiful flowers.

She is survived by four children, Timothy (Renee) Kirschbaum, of Marion, Ill., Diane (Bill) Welsh, of Cedar Rapids, Barbara (Brian) Munson, of Dubuque, and Lora (Kenneth) Goedken, of Dubuque; 12 grandchildren, Jared (Ali), Joel and Anna Kirschbaum, Alissa, Will and Christopher Welsh, Mallory (Craig) Fraaken, Jacob (Tricia) and Carl Munson, and Amanda (Michael) Shoemaker, Zachary and Nathan (Kayla) Goedken; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Duane (Kay) Haberichter, of Oskaloosa, Iowa, and their children; and a special brother-in-law, Don Schlotfelt, of Cedar Rapids, and his children.

She also was preceded in death by her mother; her special sister, Maryann Schlotfelt; and a great-grandson.

Memorials will be distributed to some of Ardeth's favorite charities.

The family would like to thank Jan Finn for her friendship and support while caring for their mother and father and the nurses and staff at Luther Manor for their wonderful care.
