GUTTENBERG, Iowa - Burnell LuVerne Reinitz, 78, of Guttenberg, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Guttenberg, with the Rev. Harold McMillin officiating. Burial will be in Guttenberg City Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg.

Mr. Reinitz worked as a carpenter from 1940-1943. He entered the service in 1943-1944, as an aviation cadet. He then was a self-employed carpenter from 1946-1957. He later accepted an appointment to work for the United States Army Corps of Engineers at Lock & Dam No. 10 in Guttenberg, in April 1957. He worked there until his retirement in 1986. He was lockmaster for the last 18 years.

He was born on March 17, 1922, in Guttenberg, son of Theodore and Mathilda (Fischer) Reinitz. He married Phyllis A. McGuire on Jan. 28, 1948, in St. John's Lutheran Church, Guttenberg.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army.

He lived in Guttenberg all his life. He built, or assisted in building, approximately 40 homes in the Guttenberg area. He attended St. John's Lutheran Church all his life. He served on the church council, brotherhood, auditing committee and Schlome & Revision of the constitution committee. He enjoyed traveling, boating and woodworking as a hobby.

Surviving are two children, Gary (Terry) Reinitz, of Fairfax, Va., and Mary (Vernon D.) Rodenberg, of Gibsonville, N.C.; four grandchildren, Cody and Zachary Reinitz, and Brett and Nickolas Rodenberg; and a great-grandchild, Ethan Reinitz.
