John H. Deyo was born in Monroe county, New York, June 16, 1828. Deceased was the son Samuel D. and Mary Deyo, both natives of New York. He departed this life at his home in this city about midnight Tuesday night after an illness of several weeks. Funeral services were held from the house Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Rev. L. Hubbell, of Edgewood, was in charge and burial was in Strawberry Point cemetery. Mr. Deyo was a carpenter and joiner and cabinet maker. At the early date of 1852 he came to Strawberry Point and spent two years working at his trade. The next five years he was in the hotel business, after which time he took up his trade and did some farming in connection. In Dec. 1878 he became engaged in the furniture and undertaking business for several years. He was married in November, 1849, in Milford to Miss Ann Cole, of New York. Two sons were born to this union, George B. and Ellery J., both of whom, together with the bereaved wife, are left to mourn their loss.
