Marie A. Pensel, 87, of Dubuque, formerly of Guttenberg, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at Ennoble Manor Care Center, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church, with burial in Guttenberg City Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg, and after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.

She was born on May 10, 1914, near Osterdock, Iowa, daughter of Harry and Amanda (Sadewasser) Handke. She married Edgar Pensel on June 19, 1935, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Guttenberg.

Marie was a homemaker.

Surviving are two sons, Wallace (friend, Diane Courtney) Pensel, of Dubuque, and Kermit (Jean) Pensel, of Guttenberg; a daughter, Sharon (Burnell) Smith, of Dubuque; two sisters, Irene Schroeder, of Garber, Iowa, and Lucille (Donald) Dodge, of Colesburg, Iowa; and a brother, Arthur (Lorene) Handke, of Littleport, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar; her parents; a sister, Loraine Miller; a daughter-in-law, Janet Pensel; two brothers, Ervin Handke and Chester in infancy.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Ennoble Manor Care Center the wonderful care given to Marie.
