GUTTENBERG, Iowa - Alice Louise Katherine Heitman, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, at home surrounded by her loved ones, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Guttenberg, with burial in the Guttenberg City Cemetery. Friends may call form 4 to 8 p.m. today at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg.

Mrs. Heitman was a homemaker all of her life.

She was born on April 29, 1942, on the family farm near Guttenberg, daughter of Arthur and Helen Esmann. She married Harold Heitman, her high school sweetheart on Feb. 27, 1960, at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Guttenberg.

She attended rural country school through fifth grade and graduated from Guttenberg High School in 1959. She was a life long member of St. Johns Church. Alice enjoyed being with her husband, taking walks, gardening, being in the woods, cooking and reading.

Surviving are her husband, Harold; a daughter, Ginger (Pete) Sakas, of Lyons, Colo.; three sons, Andy (Kim), Joe (Grace) and Bill Heitman, all of Guttenberg; her parents, Art and Helen Esmann, of Guttenberg; three sisters, Violet (Charles) Zittergruen, of Guttenberg, Helen (Loren) Duwe, of Garnavillo, and Mary (Randy) Schromen, of Peosta; a brother, Carl (Adrienna) Esmann, of Tiffin; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Heitman, of Sumner; five grandchildren, Anthony, Hunter, Molly, Hope and Haley Heitman, all of Guttenberg; and four step-grandchildren, Sydnee, Elly, Mike and Ben Sakas, of Colorado.

She was preceded in death by a brother, mother-in-law, father-in-law and her grandparents.

Memorials may be given to Prairie du Chien (Wis.) Hospice.
