Harlan Albert Backes, 71, of Guttenberg, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005, in the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital after a long illness. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, St. John's Lutheran Church, by the Rev.

Harold McMillin. Burial: Guttenberg City Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 tonight at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Guttenberg, and one hour before services Thursday at the church.

Survivors include his wife, Myrna; three sons, Randy, Robert and Roger, all of Guttenberg; and a sister, Ivanelle Kraus of Garnavillo.
