71, died Sunday, June 15, 2003, in her home after a short illness. Services: 2 p.m. today, St. John's Lutheran Church, Guttenberg, by the Rev. Harold McMillin. Burial: Guttenberg City Cemetery. Arrangements with Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Guttenberg.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Alfred; two daughters, Darla (Dan) Brodigan of La Crescent, Minn., and Rhonda (Duane) Jasper of Independence; a son, Steve (Sue) Bahls of Guttenberg; mother, Irene Schroeder of Garber; two sisters, LaVonne (Eddie) Rodenberg and Myrna (Harlan) Backes, both of Guttenberg; four brothers, Hermie (Janet) Schroeder, Lyle (Holly) Schroeder and Gary (Jennifer) Schroeder, all of Garber, and Dennis Schroeder of McGregor; and eight grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence.

Darlene was born on a farm in Guttenberg on Feb. 15, 1932, to Clarence and Irene (Handke) Schroeder. She was united in marriage to Alfred Bahls on Oct. 14, 1952, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Guttenberg. She was a Guttenberg school cook for over 30 years.

Darlene's love in life were her grandchildren.
