Clayton County Register,, Thur., 08 Dec. 1927. Strawberry Point column.

Gustave Adolph Eppler, who was buried here Saturday, was born June 13, 1850, in Germany. He was reared in the Lutheran faith and after graduating from school he learned the trade of shoemaker. After several years of apprenticeship he left his home and went to several places to improve his ability. Reaching the age for compulsory military training he served his country in Cassel, Hessia. Soon after entering the army, the France-American war broke out and he took part in many of the battles. He came to America in 1873 and came directly to this community and has lived here ever since. He took up his former trade here, which he followed until a few weeks before his death, which occurred last Thursday morning at 5:30 o'clock. In 1874 he was married to Miss Wilhelmina Hoehn, also of Germany, but who had but recently arrived in the United States. Rev. List performed the ceremony. A memorable day in his life was the day of his Golden Wedding which he and his wife celebrated Sept. 15, 1924. It was a day of rejoicing and thanksgiving for the kind guidance of his God who had led him by the side of his beloved wife through many a day. He leaves to mourn his loss his aged widow and six children, Mrs. Rose Jones of Spencer, Mrs. Ida Moore of Waterloo, Ernest Eppler of this place, Mrs. Lena Northrup of Arlington, Alvin Eppler of Lorenzo, California, and Miss Leta Eppler of Chicago. Two sons, Louis and William, preceded their father in death. There are also ten grandchildren. Mr. Eppler was one of the charter members of the Emanuel Lutheran church here and as the congregation is preparing to observe its fiftieth anniversary next year, he was much interested in this and expected to take part in the celebration. He was the oldest businessman in this town and his friends are numberless. Mr. Eppler is gone from us but his memory remains.
