Clayton County Register, Thur., 03 Nov. 1927. Goshen column.

Irene Evlyn Smith was born Sept. 28, 1906, in Millville Twp., Clayton County, Iowa. She grew to womanhood in this neighborhood and was held in high esteem by all who knew her.

In August, 1919, she became a member of the United Brethren church at this place and until her death she was a faithful and consistent member, always ready to help in church and Sunday School.

On July 26th, 1924, she was united in marriage at Manchester with Wilbur Hyde of Colesburg, Iowa. In March, 1926, she with her family moved to near Dubuque, where she lived until her death. To this union were born two children, a daughter Betty Lou, age three years, and a son, Donald Earl, age ten days.

During her sickness all that medical skill and loving hands could do was done for her but to no avail and her spirit passed on to it's Eternal Home at 10:30 p.m. October 28, 1927, at the age of 21 years and one month.

She leaves to mourn her loss besides her husband and two children, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, an aged grandmother, three sisters, Mrs. Ed. Moser of Guttenberg, Mrs. Harry of Turkey River, Mrs. O. Donnan of Millville; four brothers, Irvin of Turkey River, Emmet of Zwingle, Iowa, Ernest of Bonita, Mont., Ferman at home, and a large number of other relatives.
