Samuel Ellsworth Baker was born in Morgantown, West Virginia, on the fifteenth of November 1845, and died October 19th, at the home of his daughter at Garber, Iowa, at the age of eighty-one years, ten months and 24 days,
Deceased was the second child of a family of seven, consisting of four sisters, one half-sister and one half-brother, the latter preceding him in death on September 15, 1924. He was the son of Henry and Sarah M. Baker and came to Iowa with his parents at the age of seven years, settling on a farm near Colesburg. He was affiliated with the Brethern church, formerly called the Dunkard, having been baptized and became a member in his younger days. On November 10, 1869, he was united in marriage to Miss Clara I. Bevans who preceded him in death on December 3, 1922. To this union eleven children were born, four of these having died in infancy. The deceased was an honest, upright and industrious husband and a kind and loving father. Since the death of his wife he has been making his home with his children. He possessed very good health, having been afflicted with very few ailments during his lifetime, and death came very suddenly, as his illness was only of short duration. He died Sunday morning, October 9th, at 2:15.
