Clayton County Register, Thur., 22 Sept. 1927.
An aged resident of Clayton County, Mrs. Simon Latteyer, passed away at the family home in Motor, at the noon hour, on Friday, September 16th, 1927, at the age of 71 years, 7 months and 8 days.
Deceased, Libbe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Pupke, was born in Cox Creek twp., Clayton County, Iowa, on February 8th, 1856. On the first day of March, 1875, she was united in marriage to Simon Latteyer. Ten children were born to this union, of which three preceded their mother in death, one son, George, at the age of 27 years.
The family lived on several farms in Cox Creek twp., until about 33 years ago, when they moved on the farm in Motor, near the old mill, Which has been their home ever since.
Mrs. Latteyer was a hard working woman for the raising of a family of ten children naturally meant much work and worry for the mother. Three years ago she began to fail, but was still able to attend to her various household duties; but for the last three months she was confined to her bed most of the time with a complication of diseases. Nothing was left undone to make it comfortable for the patient; loving hands were ever ready to serve.
The departed is survived by the husband, Simon Latteyer; four sons and three daughters: Fred Latteyer, at home; Mrs. James Shepard, Wood, S.D.; Seymour Latteyer, Mrs. John Enders and Mrs. Guy Coonfare, of Guttenberg, Ia.; Fred Pupke, of Chicago; and Gust Pupke, of Minneapolis, Minn.
Funeral services, which were largely attended by relatives, friends and neighbors, were held Sunday afternoon, Sept. 18 at the home, with Rev. C. H. Franke officiating. The mortal remains were laid to rest in the Communia Cemetery.
