Clayton County Register, Thur., 15 Sept. 1927. Strawberry Point columns.
Our community was shocked last Friday evening when the Lutheran bells tolled and word was passed around that Mrs. Henry J. Opperman was dead. Mrs. Opperman had not been well for some time but was up and around most of the time. Friday evening she was out side talking to her husband and the men doing some work there when she complained of being dizzy and ______ before Mr. Opperman could reach her. Medical aid was at once summoned but before the doctor arrived she was dead. Miss Marie Kuntzman, daughter of the late George and Margaret Kuntzman, was born in Dubuque, Iowa, Oct. 25, 1857, and lived in that city until 1916 when she was united in marriage to Henry J. Opperman of this place, and since that time she has been a resident of this place. Mrs. Opperman was a member of the Lutheran church and always lived up to the teachings. She had not planned to die but to always live to help others. She is gone but her memory will always live to those near and dear to her. Mrs. Opperman is survived by her husband, Henry J. Opperman; two step-sons, Albert and Irvin; one sister, Miss Margaret Kuntzman of Dubuque; and two nephews, George and William Kuntzman of Encampment, Wyo. Her only brother, George, preceded her in death three years ago. Funeral services were held at the home Monday morning and taken to the Lutheran church, conducted by her pastor, Rev. M. O. Jahr. The remains were taken to Dubuque for interment in the St. John's cemetery, and she was laid to rest among a bower of beautiful flowers, the last tribute of love and esteem of her many friends.
