The death of William Erdman, a resident of Guttenberg for 61 years, occurred at his home in this city on July 10. Deceased was born in Brostour, Germany, on April 5, 1849, and therefore was 78 years, three months and five days of age when called by the Angel of death. When seventeen years of age he came to America, settling at Guttenberg, where the remainder of his life was spent. He was married to Miss Louise Hoppe at Guttenberg in 1873. Mrs. Erdman died on July 14, 1917. When a young man, Mr. Erdman served an apprenticeship in learning the blacksmith trade, which occupation he followed for many years being successfully engaged in the blacksmith business in Guttenberg for a time, retiring a number of years ago. One brother, Carl Erdman, of Forestville, Michigan, and one niece, Mrs. Emma Landsberg of Detroit, Michigan, deeply mourn his death. Funeral services were conducted by Attorney Chas. E. Scholtz at the Erdman home in this city on Tuesday afternoon of last week. Interment was made in the City cemetery.
