The funeral of the late Warren Bush of Osterdock, formerly of this place, was held on Wednesday morning at the Bethel church. A large number of friends and neighbors attended the funeral, which was conducted by Rev. Wm. Gifford, pastor of the Congregational church of this place. Mr. Bush was a man who was respected by all who knew him, and his influence for good was felt in the community which he claimed as his own. He was always in sympathy with the church and a worker that could be depended upon at all times. Warren Bush was born in Monroe county, Pennsylvania, April 21st, 1827, and died at his home near Osterdock on Sunday afternoon, September 26, 1909. He was married to Christina Werkheiser, Dec. 31st, 1849, in Monroe county. In the spring of 1857 they left their native state and came west to Iowa, and settled on a farm near Colesburg, where they lived for about five years, moving from there to where they now live. Nine children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Bush, viz: Edward A., Martha E., William E., Reuben H., Mary C., Joseph W., Minnie A. Lodd, of Oelwein; Annie E. Haught and J. V. Bush, of San Diego, California. Of these children there are three who preceded their father to the great beyond, which were Edward, at the age of 55 years; Martha, at the age of 10 years; and Mary at the age of 2 years. Besides the widow and his children he leaves to mourn his loss a large number of grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Ellen Strader, of Colesburg, Mrs. Emma Potts, of Oelwein, and two brothers, John V. Bush, of this place, and Wm. L. Bush, of Rose, Mich. Interment was made in the Bethel cemetery. The pall bearers were grandsons, with the exception of Dale Bush, who substituted for a grandson who found it impossible to be present at the funeral.
