The death of Herman Baumartner, Sr., occurred at his home Sunday morning. Mr. Baumgartner had not been well for some time but was up and around most of the time. He was born in Germany, March 2nd, 1854. While in Germany he studied the tailor business and followed that profession until he came to this country at the age of 19 and settled on a farm near St. Sebald. At St. Sebald he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Niedermeyer. To this union fourteen children were born, one son dying in infancy and one daughter at the age of eleven. The remaining are: Martin, Herman, Jr., Charles, Louie, George, Will and John of this place and August and Fred of Oelwein, Mrs. Minnie Otdoefer, Mrs. Lena Kramer and Mrs. Lydia Opperman all of this place. Mr. Baumgartner lived on a farm until five years ago when he and his wife moved to town to enjoy the remaining years. He was a firm believer in the Lutheran religion and lived up to the teachings until his death. Besides his sorrowing wife and twelve children he leaves one step-son, Gottfried Niedermeyer of this place, thirty-one grandchildren and one great-grandchild, also two brothers, Charles Baumgartner of this place and John Baumgartner of Garner, and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Weger of this place and Caroline of Germany, besides other relatives and a large circle of friends. Funeral services occurred at the Lutheran church Tuesday afternoon conducted by his pastor, Rev. Jahr, and interment took place in the family lot at St. Sebald.
