Clayton County Register, Thur., 05 May 1927.
Gea Johnson, wife of Elias Bergemeyer, was born in O_-in Tolgen, Norway, Dec. 6, 1858, and entered into rest at McGregor, Iowa, April 27, 1927, aged 68 years, four months and 21 days. Deceased suffered a stroke on April 18th, at 2:00 p.m., from which she never regained consciousness. The entire community, as well as her friends and neighbors, were shocked when the news of her sickness became known, as she was seen on the street in the afternoon in her usual good health. But her work was finished, God called her Home, and this earthly home is bereft of a loving wife and devoted mother.
She leaves in passing, her aged husband, two sons, Embert of Elkader, and Joe of Nora Springs, Iowa; one sister and brother of Flaxville, Montana; two brothers, Erick and Oley Johnson, living near McGregor, and four grandchildren, and a host of friends. Two children, Mary and Ben, preceded her in death 14 years ago.
Especially will she be missed in her church where she was ever a willing worker.
The funeral was held Saturday, April 30th at 1:30 at the home and 2:30 at the Norwegian church. Services were conducted by the Rev. J. F. Parsons, taking for his text Psalm 90, first verse. His remarks were touchingly beautiful, offering consolation to the family.
"Fold her O Father in Thine arms,
And let her henceforth be
A messenger of love between
Our human hearts and Thee."
