Carl Georges* was born on September 11, 1843, at Bruchau, Germany. In his early days he moved to Gross Beuster with his parents, where he spent his childhood days.
In 1866 he fought in the German - Austrian war and was called again in the 1870-71 German - France war.
In 1874 he emigrated to this country, to Chicago. Later he came to Clayton Center, where he was married to Miss Elizabeth Mueller, who died a year later.
In 1876, he was married to Miss Mary Krambeer. This union was blessed with nine children, three of whom died in infancy. The wife and mother passed to the great beyond in 1895.
Mr. Georges resided on a farm southwest of Garnavillo until 1910, when he moved to Garnavillo. He lived here until 1924 when he went to make his home with his daughters in Minneapolis.
He enjoyed fairly good health until this winter when he gradually began to fail, and on Friday morning, March 25, while sitting in his chair reading his morning prayer, he passed peacefully away just 32 years after the death of his wife.
Deceased leaves six children: Mrs. Ida Gilster of McGregor; John of Lily, South Dakota; Louis of Modesto, California; and, Marie, Bertha and Ben of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and one sister, Mrs. Marie Guhl, who is making her home with Mr. and Mrs. Louis Gilster of McGregor.
The remains were brought to McGregor Sunday and taken to the Louis Gilster home. On Monday forenoon funeral services were held here at the St. Peter's church, Rev. G. Zeilinger of Dubuque officiating. Interment in the old cemetery.

The funeral of a former resident of Garnavillo, Carl Georgens (sic), of Minneapolis, Minn., was held at the St. Peter's church Monday, March 28th.
