Clayton County Register, Thur., 17 Mar. 1927. Strawberry Point column.
Daniel Mercer Nace was born at Moundsville, West Virginia, March 15, 1849, and died at his home in Strawberry Point, Friday, March 11, 1927, after a lingering illness. He came to Iowa with his parents when he was a small child and located on a farm west of town. Here he grew to manhood and on March 15, 1875, he was married to Miss Ame__a (looks like Amella or Amelia) Cadwell of this place. Mr. and Mrs. Nace lived on a farm two miles west of town for a number of years, until they moved to town, where Mr. Nace worked for twenty years in the music department of the Chas Roberts Furniture store. Two daughters blessed this union, one dying in infancy. Besides his sorrowing wife he is survived by his daughter, Jennie M., wife of Dr. F. P. Howard, and one grandson, Donald Howard, also two brothers, Wm. H. Nace of Arlington, and Frank Nace of this place, and one sister, Mrs. G. N. Ely of Limon, Colo., and other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held from the Congregational church Sunday afternoon conducted by the pastor, Rev. Maxwell. Interment took place in our local cemetery. A good man has gone to his reward.
