Clayton County Register, Thur., 17 Mar. 1927.

Emerson Palmer was born in Crawford county, Pa., Sept. 19, 1852. His parents brought him to Wisconsin when he was two years of age. In 1864 the family moved to Elkader, which has since been his home except for three years when he lived in Missouri, until his death Monday morning, March 14, at the county home.

He was married to Miss Libbie Nibleck of Waukon in 1878. To this union were born ten children, three of whom and the mother preceded him in death. Those who survive are: Mrs. Hazel McLane of Strawberry Point; Mrs. Ellen Dunn of Dubuque; Harold of Highland; Hollis of Arizona; Glen of Rockford, Illinois; Ted and Rose, and a sister, Mrs. Nettie Perrin of LeSeuer, Minnesota; a half-sister and half-brother, Mrs. Ruth Eckart of Waukon, and Don Palmer of Alden, Iowa; a step-mother, Mrs. Celia Palmer of Charles City, and seven grandchildren.

Archie, as he was commonly known by his friends and associates, was a man who lived according to the best light that he had, a man of good moral character, but unfortunately never knew good health and as the years advanced became more and more of an invalid.

The funeral was held at the place of interment, Elkader cemetery, Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Albert S. Kilbourn officiating. The occasion was especially sad, as none of his immediate family were present.
