Clayton County Register, Thur., 03 Mar. 1927. Guttenberg column.

The following in regard to the death of a former Guttenberg resident was taken from the Great Falls, Montana, Tribune: "Otto Fuelleman was stabbed to death on the streets of Belgrade, Montana, on Monday morning February 21, and Fred Burkegart is held in the county jail at Bozeman, Montana.

The men operated competing butcher shops in Belgrade and on the morning of February 21, Burkegart made a visit to Fuelleman's place of business, going afterwards to his own shop, where he wrapped a skinning knife in a piece of paper and started to return to his rival's shop. What had transpired in the shop on the first visit is unknown.

The two men met midway between their two shops and eye witnesses say Burkegart asked the other why he couldn't get along with another butcher . To this Fuelleman is said to have replied that he never had had trouble with any competitor. Hot words followed and Burkegart is said to have pressed the knife, still in its wrappings, into the breast of Fuellerman, the latter attempting to push it away. The knife blade penetrated the lower part of Fuelleman's heart and he died almost instantly."

The funeral was held at Belgrade. Otto Fuelleman was born and grew to manhood in Guttenberg, Iowa. About 25 years ago he left here for the northwest, and had been conducting a meat market at Belgrade, Montana, successfully, for some time. He leaves one sister, Mrs. Minnie Krauss, of Volga City. He was 48 years old, and was an ambitious man, held in high regard by all who knew him. He was never married.

(Note: His surname was spelled both ways, as presented here.)
