Clayton County Register, Thur., 13 Jan. 1927. Guttenberg columns.
Relatives in Guttenberg have received word stating that Joseph Kann, a former long-time, highly respected resident of Clayton county had passed away at his home at Minot, N.D., on Tuesday morning at the age of 67 years. Deceased was born on a farm in Jefferson township, Clayton county, Iowa, where he spent his boyhood days. When a young man he went to Garnavillo, Iowa, where he was successfully engaged in the creamery business for some time. He was married at Garnavillo to Miss Mollie Uriell. After leaving the farm he went to Elkader to reside where he lived for many years, being elected Sheriff of Clayton county for three consecutive terms. A number of years ago he went to Minot, N.D., with his family, to reside, where the remainder of his life was spent, and where he was successfully engaged in banking and real estate business. He had been in poor health for some time when death called him to the Great Beyond. Mr. Kann was a faithful member of the Catholic church. His death is deeply mourned by his widow; one son, Raymond of Minot, N.D.; two daughters, Sister Ruth and Marie Kann, both of Minot, N.D.; six grandchildren; one brother, Hubert Kann, of Long View, Wash.; one sister, Mrs. William Uriell of Garnavillo township; and numerous relatives and friends by whom he will sadly be missed. The funeral will be held at Minot, N.D., on Friday morning. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Kann of this city, cousins of the deceased, have gone to Minot to attend the funeral.
