Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 4 Dec. 1919.

John Everall, Jr., died at 11:00 o'clock this (Thursday) morning at Monona after an extended illness. He was forty-eight years old.

Stricken at a time when success had crowned his efforts and was promising a bright future with wider fields of influence, the untimely death of Mr. Everall will fill with sadness the hearts of his many friends in Clayton county and elsewhere.

Born in Farmersburg township, educated there, and later graduating from Elkader High school, he taught for a brief time and then took up the study of law, graduating from Drake University. He entered the office of J. E. Corlett at Elkader for the practice of his profession, later forming a partnership with the late G. H. Schulte.

About thirteen years ago he became connected with a prominent firm of lawyers at St. Paul and since then his advancement was rapid, until failing health called a halt.

Such in brief was the career cut short today, but this sketch does not tell of the able mind the sterling qualities which won respect and friendship and love from a wide circle of those who came in contact with him. Those things are best known in the hearts of his friends whose sympathy goes out to the stricken relations.

The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the home in Monona, with Masonic services.

A full obit for John Everall, Jr., appears in this issue of the newspaper, repeating much of the information contained in the death notice in the previous weeks edition. From the 11 Dec. 1919 edition the following information is added:

John Everall, Jr., was the second son of John and Vallonia Renshaw Everall and was born February 16th, 1871, in Farmersburg township. In his early boyhood the family moved to Elkader, where he graduated high school with the class of 1889.

About thirteen years ago he accepted a position in the claim department of the Chicago Great Western railway and in 1909 moved to St. Paul, Minn., to enter the law firm of Briggs, Thygenson & Everall. He left that firm about two years ago to accept the position of Assistant Attorney General of the state of Minnesota, which he filled until failing health forced his retirement last August.

Mr. Everall was married June 19th, 1901, to Miss Jennie Mitchell, of Waukon, Iowa. One daughter Marjorie, now aged 16, was born to them.

Besides the wife and daughter, Mr. Everall is survived by his aged parents; two brothers, Dr. B. B. Everall of Monona, Iowa, and Dr. Ben Everall of Waterloo, Iowa; and two sisters, Mattie and Bessie E., both of Monona, Iowa.

Mr. Everall became a member of the Congregational church in Elkader while a young man, being active in organizing that church. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity, still retaining his membership in Elkader Lodge No. 72, of which he was a Past Master.

Funeral services were held at the family home in Monona, Saturday, Dec. 6th, the Rev. H. F. Banks and Rev. J. B. Ackman officiating. Interment was made in the Monona cemetery with Masonic services participated in by members of the order from Elkader, Farmersburg, and Monona, with Hon. Chas. Scholz of Guttenberg acting as Master.
