Mary Rose Christine Otterbeck was born at Waldenburg, Germany, Nov. 30, 1884. At the age of eight years she came with her parents to this country where the family settled in this community. After she had been instructed in the Lutheran Faith she was confirmed in the Lutheran church at this place in the spring of 1899. She has always shown herself a true member of her church. Feb. 2, 1909, She was married to Mr. Aug. Frederick. To this union four children were born, viz.: Lydia, Edward, Howard and Odella, the last an infant of three days at the time of the death of the mother. She was always in the best of health until about two years ago. At first nobody considered her ailment serious, but after some time it was found that it was the dreaded disease tuberculosis. Six weeks ago she decided to go to the sanitarium at Oakdale, Iowa, where she remained until her death which occurred Monday night July 21st. She received all medical help possible and patiently bore her sufferings to the end. She was a true and kind mother and wife and will be missed greatly not only by her family but by all her relatives and friends. She is survived by the husband and four children, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Otterbeck, and six brothers: Christian, Charles, Louis, Fred, William and Herman, and two sisters: Mrs. Kate Skibbe and Mrs. Rose Possehl. The funeral was held Thursday forenoon from the home to the Lutheran church, Rev. Fritschel officiating. The pall bearers were the six brothers of the deceased. The casket was beautifully garlanded with flowers, the tribute of loving friends. Many gathered at the church and followed the remains to the cemetery.
