Anna Minna Elsie Funk, nee Wendt, was born June 11, 1863, in Klein-Beuster, Province of Saxony, Germany.
In 1867 she came to America with her parents, brothers and sisters and they first settled in Clayton Center. Here she was confirmed by Rev. F. W. Seifert. The deceased entered the bonds of holy wedlock with Wilhelm Heuer who died after a period of two years. Two children were born to this union and of these Mrs. Charlotte Hoth survives the mother.
On Sept. 13, 1894, the young widow was united in marriage to Johann Funk and plans had been made to celebrate their silver wedding this fall. This union was blessed by six children, four surviving. The twenty-five years of their married life were unusually happy and the Lord blessed their coordinate living and striving. Both lived in the fullest harmony of their belief of love and hope, but the joy of their lives was deeply interspersed with grief and sorrow; two promising sons preceded her to the Great Beyond.
For some time the deceased had been suffering from an internal malady which however, was conquered by her inherent strong and healthy physique. The last few weeks a serious gall stone trouble caused her much suffering and to remedy this she submitted to an operation March 19, which apparently was successful, so that she and her loved ones were filled with hope and confidence that she might be able to return to her home within a few days, but on Monday afternoon, March 31, she suffered a relapse and passed away at the age of 55 years, 9 months and 19 days.
Her passing is mourned by her husband, one son, Arno; and four daughters, Mrs. Charlotte Hoth, Mrs. Ella Mueller, Louise and Hertha at home; one sister, Mrs. Helene Seeland, and two grandchildren.
