Death From Lockjaw.
Postvillc Review:—Death in one of the worst of its varied forms visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lammert northwest of town Sunday morning last at 1:30 o’clock and took from it the spirit of their loved daughter Anna, aged nearly eleven years. As we learn it about two weeks ago while about home Anna stepped on the point of a rusty nail which penetrated her heel. While as usual such wounds are quite painful at the time, the usual home remedies were applied and Anna kept on attending school up to and including last Friday. On her return from school that day she complained of having had occasional peculiar contractions of her muscles at intervals accompanied by sharp pains and with difficulty in opening her jaws —it was lockjaw. She was soon seized with a return of the tetanic convulsions which continued with increasing frequency and severity until Sunday morning, when despite all that medical skill could do, death came to her as a sweet release from terrible suffering.Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows she is buried in the Postville Cemetery and that she was born December 15, 1892 and died June 5, 1904.
