Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 21 Aug. 1913. Strawberry Point column.

The community was greatly shocked Saturday to learn of the sudden death of Clarence Mikota. Death occurred at Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Saturday morning, and was due to shock received by jumping from a fourth story window of that institution. He had been ill with typhoid fever for several days. He was delirious and it was necessary to keep him strapped to the bed. The nurse attending him left the room on an errand, and was gone only a few minutes, and on returning found that he had gotten loose and was at the window. He jumped as she came into the room. Death occurred shortly after the accident and was due to shock. Clarence Richard Mikota was born in Winneshiek county, April 2, 1895, and was 18 years, 4 months and 7 days old. He leaves to mourn his death besides his parents, three brothers, Alfred and Archie, of Cedar Rapids, and Leonard, of Elkader; and two sisters, Emma and Alice, of Cedar Rapids, and a host of other relatives and friends. In 1898 he came with his parents to Strawberry Point, this being his home for nearly 14 years. In December, 1911, he went to Cedar Rapids, but later returned to graduate with the class of 1912. He is the first of his class and the first of the family to be so taken. The body was brought here Monday and funeral services were held in the Catholic church, conducted by Rev. Father Hartigan. Burial took place in our beautiful cemetery.
