On Friday morning at 2:00 o'clock, at his home in this city, occurred the death of Gottlieb Pufahl, after a lingering illness, the cause of his death being cystitis. Deceased was born in Kowelefko, Germany, on April 2, 1831, and was 82 years, 1 month and 21 days of age at the time of his death. He was married at Jaucowa, Germany, on August 16, 1857, and in the year 1871, with his family, came to the United States, and on July 2, 1871, he came to Guttenberg, Clayton County, Iowa, where he lived until the silent reaper took him to the great beyond. He was an ambitious man throughout his life, and was a kind and true husband, father and friend, and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Beside his aged widow his death is mourned by four sons, Gustave, of Luana; Herman, of Bolivar, Mo.; Emil, of Monona, and Otto, of Butte, Mont.; and two daughters, Mrs. Fred Williams, of Steamboat Springs, Col., and Mrs. O. H. Burke, of Los Angeles, Cal., besides a large circle of relatives and friends. The children were all present at the funeral, which was held at St. John's Lutheran Church in this city Monday afternoon, Rev. Janzig officiating. Interment was made in the city cemetery.
