Willam Hill died at the home of his grandson, George Hill, on Sunday morning, May 18th, at 1 o'clock, at the age of 95 years and 4 months, after an illness of a few days.
He was born in Schlierback, Hessen, Darmstack, Germany, on January 18th, 1818. His marriage to Miss Elizabeth Hoffman was blessed with three children, William, Emma and Henry.
In 1847 they came to America, to Buffalo, New York, afterwards moving to Cassville, Wis., and in 1861 coming to Garnavillo. Both sons preceded the parents in death, William dying at the age of 27 years, in Deadwood, S.D., and Henry dying in July of 1892 at his home in Garnavillo. The mother died in March 1898.
Mr. Hill enjoyed unusually good health all the years of his long life. He was taken sick Saturday night at about eleven o'clock, dying at one o'clock Sunday morning. He leaves one daughter, Mrs. Emma Sigg, of Lincoln, Neb., two grandsons, Geo. Hill, of this place, and Del Sigg, of Lincoln, and one great-granddaughter, Margaret Hill.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Braun at St. Paul's church Tuesday afternoon. Interment in the old cemetery.
