John Roach was born in county Cork, Ireland, Jan. 1, 1823, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Rinkert, Monday morning, May 12th. At the age of seventeen he came to America, going to Maynard, Mass., where he worked in the woolen mills as a dyer. At the age of 27 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Fitzgerald, of Boston, Mass. To this union four children were born, John, the oldest, dying in infancy; Patrick, of Eagle Grove; Mary, now Mrs. John Rinkert, and Hanna, now Mrs. Wm. Krieg, of Volga City. Mr. Roach was one of the pioneers of this country, coming in January, 1870, and residing here all the remaining years of his life. His sickness has been one of long duration. During all this time he was very patient and a complaint was never heard from him. The funeral was held at Sacred Heart church Wednesday morning, Rev. Father Hetherington officiating. Burial was in Elkader.
