Martha Gass was born August 2nd, 1841, in Dearborn county, Indiana. She came to Iowa in the year 1861 and on June 16th, 1866, she was united in marriage to Edward White, who preceded her in death on August 8th, 1891. Mrs. White passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Chas. Mentzer, in Cedar Rapids, Ia., April 30th, 1913. She leaves to mourn her passing seven children, six daughters and one son, viz: Mrs. Walter Leviness, of Pleasant Ridge; Mrs. Henry Krambeer, of Luana; Mrs. Eli Sheppard, of Farmersburg; Mrs. Chas. Cummings, of Monona; and Mrs. Chas. Mintzer, Mrs. Wm. Turner and Edward White, of Cedar Rapids, also one sister, Mrs. Mary Sebastian, of Farmersburg, and three half-brothers, Jesse, Edward and William Gass.
She was a kind mother and good neighbor and ever ready to extend a helping hand in sickness. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. The funeral was held here Sunday afternoon, May 4th, Rev. James B. Bird, of Monona, officiating. Interment in the Farmersburg cemetery.
