The Volga City News is in receipt of word from James J. Lane of Wheaton, Ill., a former resident here, telling of the death and funeral of Thomas Cowley, also a former resident here.
Mr. Cowley died in Des Moines last Friday, November 10, at the age of 92 years. The funeral was held at Des Moines on Monday morning, Nov. 13.
Mr. Cowley lived in the Volga City vicinity for a number of years, moving to Des Moines over 30 years ago.
Mr. and Mrs. Farrell Cowley, Frank Lane and Mrs. Agnes Krueger, all of Chicago, left there Saturday to attend the funeral. Farrell is a son, and Mr. Lane and Mrs. Krueger are nephew and niece of the deceased.

Notes:
His wife was Mary E. Lane. His death certificate indicates Thomas Cowley was born 8/17/1846 and died 11/10/1933 of senility; s/o James & Mary (McCarrick) Crowley; burial in Glendale cemetery, Polk county. Find a Grave has photos of gravestones for both Thomas & Mary E. Cowley, and a young son, Frederick J., age 2 mo., and another son John T., in the Glendale cemetery (Polk co. IA). The stone for Mary in Glendale cemetery may be a cenotaph, because her obit states burial in the Cox Creek Sacred Heart cemetery near Strawberry Point, but it is possible her remains were reinterred sometime after her death.
