Elkader Register & Argus, Thur. 6 Feb. 1913. Elkport and Vicinity column. Condensed.
Miss Wilhelmine Suckow was born in Mecklenburg, Germany, Sept. 8, 1844. She came to America with her parents and finally with the early settlers to these parts, where her childhood and maidenhood was spent. In 1861 she was united in marriage to Mr. Friedrich Waterman. They toiled as did those early settlers and then came a great blow for the family, the beloved father, being stricken with paralysis, was a helpless invalid for ten long years. It was then that the mother, with the children, worked early and late to perform their duties on the farm.
About a year prior to her death, Grandma was taken ill, suffering from diabetes, and again as she grew stronger, visited her children who live in this vicinity. For about three weeks she lay sick at the home of her son Henry, when God called her home.
The living children are: Mrs. Wilhelmina Boehm, Mrs. Augusta Fritz, Henry and Chas. Waterman, Mrs. Lena Krieg, and Mrs. Henry Wille, all of this vicinity; and John Waterman, of South Dakota. One sister, Mrs. August Benschneider, Sr., of Littleport, was the only member left of the home family, to look upon the face of the dead sister.
Many relatives and friends from surrounding cities attended the funeral services, which took place on Sunday, Jan. 26th, at the Lutheran church and thence to the cemetery, where lie those who have passed to their reward. Rev. Foelsch performed the ceremony.
