Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 14 Nov. 1907. Garnavillo column.
Saturday afternoon at about five o'clock occurred the death of Mrs. Wm. Thoma, after a very brief illness, being a victim of blood poisoning which developed from a mere scratch on her finger. Margaret Thoma, nee Pesch, was born in the Province of Bavaria Weisenfels, Germany, Nov. 18th, 1836. At the age of fifteen she accompanied her parents to America. She was married to Wm. Thoma, who died about thirty years ago. She was the mother of eleven children, three of whom have died. The eight surviving are : Mrs. Chris Schumacher, Charles, Christ and Fred, of this place, Mrs. Louis Schroeder, of Guttenberg, Paul Thoma, of Omaha, Neb, and Mrs. Ben Tangeman and Mrs. John Ihde, living north of town. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Braun, at St. Paul's church Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock and the remains interred in the new cemetery.
(Note: Her birth year is shown on WPA records and her gravestone photo on the IGPP as being 1937. Her maiden name is properly spelled Poesch, as it appears by others sharing her gravestone.)
