Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 14 Nov. 1907. Volga City Views column.
On Sunday afternoon, November 10, at four o'clock, occurred the death of Miss Ida Becker, who has been a sufferer for the last two and a half months.
Ida Becker was born near Volga on May 20th, 1896, and was the daughter of John and Charlotte Becker. They moved to Volga two years ago.
There is also left to mourn her loss six brothers, Herman, of Akeley, Minn., Albert and August, of Waterloo, John, of Oelwein, and Adolph and Karl, of Volga City, and three sisters, Mrs. Sturm, of Mederville, Mrs. Schneider, of Waterloo, and Linnie, of Volga.
She was a child that was loved by all who knew her, a cheerful and loving disposition, a good scholar in school and a hard worker, and will be missed by her teachers and schoolmates.
The funeral was held at Volga City at the home of her parents. The intermediate room, in which she was a pupil, attended the funeral in a body with their teacher, Miss Minnihan, and marched from there back to the school as the funeral procession proceeded to Elkader.
Services were held in the German Lutheran church at Elkader and burial was in the Elkader cemetery beside her twin brother. The pall bearers were students from the Volga school, Clifton Meyers, Walter Molumby, Sidney White, Walter Adams, Omar Adams and Owen Lovett. The singers from Volga were, Ruth White, Ruth Lovett, Lizzie Brabrandt, Gladys Smith and Lela Kielholtz.
Our little friend was of an unusually bright and happy disposition and universally loved by her companions. She was converted last winter and gave many evidences of her earnestness and love of Jesus, and although she will be greatly missed in our Sunday School league and day school, how much more from her home of which she was the light, we can only feel that our loss is her gain. Rev. Mr. Schoemacher, of the M.E. church, conducted the services at Volga and Rev. Leonhard at Elkader. This is the second one from the same class in one year, and as one of the classmates, as she looked at her and crying said "why are they all from our class?".
