Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 7 Nov. 1907.
Miss Melissa Cooper, after an extended illness, peacefully passed away early Sunday morning, Nov. 3rd, 1907, at the home of her sister, Mrs. Chas. Walser. Deceased was the daughter of W. F. and Mary Cooper, and was born at Strawberry Point, Iowa, Feb. 8th 18_1 (looks like 1831 or 1851), where she resided until about twelve years ago, when, with her mother, she came to Elkader.
She is survived by her mother, two sisters, Mrs. C. W. Walser, of Elkader, and Mrs. Jas. A. Tharp, of Waterloo, Ia., and three brothers, Dr. A. B. Cooper, Hermet, Cal., Dell, in Oklahoma, and Grant of Elkader.
The funeral was held Tuesday morning at Mrs. Walser's residence, a short service being held by Hazel Valley Rebekah lodge, I.O.O.F., of which she was a member, after which her remains were taken to Strawberry Point, accompanied by a delegation of the Rebekahs, where services were conducted by Rev. Mrs. Crum. The interment was made in the family lot beside her father and other relatives.
A kind hearted, patient sufferer, she has been released from pain. Peace be with her in the better land. She is at rest.
