Merrilla Lowe was born in Rock county, Wis., Sept. 18th, 1846, and with her parents came to Clayton county, Iowa, in 1847. She was united in marriage with Elisha Tenney, Nov. 29th, 1868, and to this union three children were born - two girls and a boy. Her parents were among the first settlers of Sperry twp., and from infancy Mr. Tenney was a resident of Clayton county. When the children were small Mr. Tenney left for the west and it fell upon the mother to provide for herself and the children and this work she has faithfully done. She leaves to mourn her loss two children, L. J. Tenney and Mrs. Nora Marble, one sister and two brothers and five grandchildren. In 1893 Mrs. Tenney joined the Volga M.E. church. She was also a member of our missionary society. She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Marble, April 14th, 1907, aged 60 years, 6 months and 26 days, after a long and weary illness of several months, during which she was cared for by her two children who did all they could to relieve and help her. The funeral was held at the M.E. church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Shoemaker conducting the services.
